Jaxson Dart might be out for the season

19 years after the 2007 New York Giants showed us why you should never get too low after a disappointing performance early in the season, the 2026 Giants showed us last night why you can never get too high off of an exciting Week 1 win. New York not only lost 28-6 to the Los Angeles Rams in Week 2’s episode of Monday Night Football, but the Giants lost Jaxson Dart to a knee injury. Dart reportedly was eager to reenter the game before having his uniform confiscated, but news broke today that the injury is worse than previously thought and he might miss the rest of the campaign.

This would be devastating news even if Jameis Winston didn’t play like garbage against the Rams, but Winston was 11-for-27 (41 percent) on his throws with a terrible interception. Yes, Winston played well enough to give the Giants a chance in tough games against Green Bay and Detroit when Dart was injured last season. Still, it’s tough to imagine the mistake-prone quarterback leading the Giants to a winning season after the most recent data point on his game log.

Maybe the Rams are just that good. We’ll find out a lot more about this Giants team with home games against Tennessee and Arizona up next on the schedule. The Titans nearly upset the Eagles in Week 2 while the Cardinals upset the Chargers in Week 1 before crashing down to Earth against the Seahawks in Week 2. Both opponents are beatable, but only if Winston plays like a competent quarterback. This is a great chance for Big Blue to regain some optimism and momentum before the schedule toughens up later in the year. I’m not expecting much due to how lost Winston looked last night, but there are 15 games left. It’s too early to abandon ship.
